I learned about the Heart of Haiti initiative in 2010 at the much loved Blogalicious conference. I was actually honored to meet those behind this amazing venture. It’s almost two years later and I’m happy to see how much it has grown.
Heart of Haiti is self-described as a “Trade, Not Aid” initiative launched by artist and social entrepreneur, Willa Shalit, The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and Macy’s. We all know the heartbreak that Haiti and the people of Haiti have endured since that horrible earthquake.
Thanks to Heart of Haiti, 750 Haitian artisans have been employed to create one-of-a-kind handmade designs. The master artisans work with raw materials such as recycled oil drums, wrought iron, papier-mâché and stone. This has led to financially benefiting 8,500 people in Haiti.
According to Heart of Haiti, the collection features more than 40 home decor items including quilts, metalwork, ceramics, and paintings. Accessories include vases, candleholders, serving trays, picture frames, mirrors, coasters, necklaces, clutch purses and more!
Prices range from $25-60 and make an amazing gift! It’s also a great way to give back.
You can find Heart of Haiti designs in 25 Macy’s around the country or online at Macys.com.
