Latinas Dream Too…

written by 5 Comments posted in Blog

Have you accomplished your “dreams?” I know to some of us, that may seem like a trick question. It’s not. And have you ever noticed, that the moment we’re asked about our “dreams” we immediately go back to our childhood? It’s like we have this mental checklist we need to look over. Only until recently did I really sit back and think about the dreams I had as a child.

That's me! My 1st birthday!

There were dreams of one day being a veterinarian, then a lawyer, and then a model. I laugh at that last one too! Ididn’t see any Latinas doing these things when I was kid. But, there’s a dream that I still carry with me and that’s living in New York City. I just can’t seem to shake that one. Maybe it’s the vibe or life of the city that’s calling me. One day ladies…

I do know there’s one dream that I’m definitely accomplishing and that’s writing. My dad used to say that he knew I’d be a writer one day. I was “that kid” who would give out class photos and I’d write a huge paragraph on the back of the picture. LOL! Go figure.

No I haven’t published any books, not sure if I will, but I have been blogging for over five years and I’m now doing freelance work. I’m not on any bestseller’s list and I’m no millionaire, but what I write makes me happy. Whenever I see something I’ve written published online, I kind of have to pinch myself. Whether one or 100 people read it, this is something I wrote! This little Latina from Pomona, California.

I’ve realized that “dreaming” isn’t about pleasing others. It’s about satisfying yourself and attaining a goal in life. And you can have more than one dream too! There are no limits! Your dream can be simple or extravagant, it’s up to you. There’s one dream that’s a constant-traveling the world. This is one I’ll probably try to attain until the day I die.

I want to know what your dreams are and what you’re doing to accomplish them! Enter, via the widget below, to win one of two $25 Kmart gift cards!! All the details are in the widget! Good luck!

I love this post! It really makes me think about what it is I want. What were my dreams as a kid? What are my dreams now? I definitely want to write a novel – that is a dream I’ve always had. I write a blog and I’ve wanted to try freelancing, but am not sure how to go about it and so I’ve put it off. And after reading your post I think to myself why am I putting off my dreams. I need to take action and start pursuing my dreams instead of letting them be forgotten. Thanks so much for this post – definitely inspired me today!!

Love your post…check out NaNoWriMo for your novel…it is a great way to start. I have accomplished so many of my dreams … I got a Ph.D., raised 3 wonderful kids, taught kindergarten, taught at the University, and now I am starting my own business, Roots and Wings…and I feel great. Life is good and I love my life. Yes, having your dreams come true is truly a blessing.
